The rules

What is the goal?

Combine all seven dice into a single equation that equals exactly 37, using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, parentheses and exponents.

Do I have to use every die?

Yes. All seven, every time. An equation that reaches 37 with six dice will not be accepted — this is the most common reason a solve is rejected.

Can I put two dice together to make a bigger number?

No. Each die is its own value. A 3 and a 7 do not become 37.

Can I use a die more than once?

No. Each die is used exactly once.

Power dice

What do the colours mean?

Green must be added or subtracted, blue must be multiplied or divided, and red must take part in a power. White dice carry no requirement.

What is the difference between a Valid and a Perfect solve?

Using two of the three power dice correctly makes the solve Valid. Using all three makes it Perfect. In the Daily Challenge, a Perfect solve earns a Puzzle Piece.

Do power dice appear in every mode?

No. Easy deals seven white dice and has no power-dice rules at all, in both its practice round and its Daily. Challenge and Expert both use them.

The Daily Challenge

How many Dailies are there?

Three — one for each tier. The Easy Daily, the Daily Challenge and the Expert Daily are separate puzzles with separate dice, and each has its own leaderboard and its own streak. The Daily is a round type every tier has, not a mode of its own. See the modes page.

When does the daily puzzle change?

All three refresh at midnight Eastern Time. Everyone playing a given tier that day gets the same seven dice.

What happens if I leave mid-puzzle?

It counts as a forfeit. Every Daily is one puzzle, one attempt, in one sitting — it does not pause. The untimed practice rounds have no such rule; leave those whenever you like.

How do streaks work?

Each Daily keeps its own streak. Solve a given tier’s Daily on consecutive days to keep that tier’s streak alive; missing a day resets that one. Skipping a different tier never breaks it — so you can play only the Easy Daily forever and keep a perfect Easy streak.

What are Puzzle Pieces?

A Perfect solve — all three power dice used with the right kind of operation — is what earns one. Because Easy deals no coloured dice, a Perfect solve there is arithmetically impossible, so the Easy Daily awards no Pieces; its rewards are its streak and its leaderboard. Puzzle Pieces are a single collectible, and collecting them crosses badge tiers at 37, 111 and 222.

Playing and accounts

Is it free?

Yes. 37 is free to play on the web and on both app stores.

Where can I play?

In any browser at 37themathpuzzle.app, and as a native app on iOS and Android.

Do I need an account?

You need one to appear on the leaderboard, keep a streak or sync progress between devices.

How do I get better?

Start with the strategy guide, then practise untimed in Challenge mode. Sixteen worked boards show the method applied end to end.
